Mach 28 – An Australian made 28 foot crossover sailing boat ⁄ family weekender! You may have heard of the MacGregor or also known as the Mac 26X or the Mac 26M?
Well this design is similar in many ways with a water ballast system, but volume wise, it’s a lot larger. I’m 6’2” and can comfortably walk around below mid ships at the galley. The enclosed head is spacious with pressurised water for a shower! A chemical toilet has been widely installed rather than a pump out toilet, allowing you to venture in to the protected zones to overnight where pump out toilets can be restricted.
The overall layout of this rig makes for a floating “Jayco caravan” with inclusions seldom found in such trailerable sailing boats. The galley abounds with storage, a stove top that allows your culinary skills to shine along with a fridge, pressurised water tap and sink and preparation bench space.
The boat comfortably accommodates for 6 adults to bed down for the night and with cabin lighting throughout. The dual battery system provides plenty of power and a professionally installed wiring system with a comprehensive switch panel and battery level indicator make for confidence when on the water for a few days.
Sailing this rig is made easy with a simple main sail and furling jib, allowing gentlemen’s “cockpit” sailing… Protection from the sun is by way of a folding bimini top and naturally the cabin has a hatch and storm boards.
Powered by an Evinrude 90Hp ETEC, this 2004 model motor has just had its annual service completed and is fuelled for range via 2 tanks with a combined capacity in the vicinity of 200L. Ideal when the wind drops out and you want to move anchorages and or get out of foul weather.
The boat abounds with quality inclusions from a flat screen TV, sound system, comprehensive electronics and autopilot for the best of the “tech heads” to enjoy playing with!
